New Publishing Options!

Posted by Paul Hamilton on May 28th, 2009

Hello Fellow Fishermen!

Thanks to Brad, you all have the upgraded security access of “Editor”  that means that when you are logged in you can view everyone’s “Private” posts.  What does that mean to you?

It means that when you mark a post as private only those users that have logged in will be able to view it.  So, if you would rather control who will be able to see your post, mark your post as private, then you’ll know that only your brothers will be able to see it.

It also means you need to log in each time you come to visit so you can make sure you see everything.  If you’re not logged in you can’t see the private posts!!!

But HOW DO I POST PRIVATELY?

First, you need to log in!   If you haven’t found it, the “Log In” link is just below the sober gaze of Henry Martyn on the right-hand side of the page. (Don’t trifle!  Be in earnest!)

Second, click on the “Site Admin” link that displays after you log in, it should display just above the log in link.

Third, click on the “Add New” link in the “Posts” box on the upper left-hand side of the page.  Enter all the text of your post.

Forth, in the Publish box on the upper right-hand side of the page, click on the “Edit” link next to “Visibility,” click on the “Private” radio-button which displays, and then click the “OK” button.

Fifth, click “Publish”  you’re done!

P.S.  I’ll post a private post next, please comment on that post if you can see it.  Thanks!  Remember, you have to be logged in to see private posts!  So log in to make sure you not missing any of the posts!

Calendar and Miscellaneous

Posted by Paul Hamilton on April 28th, 2009

Fellow Fishermen!

As you have any preaching or other ministry engagements, please add them to the Calendar (you’ll need a gmail account to do so [which is free]) or enter a post with the dates and as soon as I see it I’ll add it to the calendar.

One of the main purposes of this blog is to help us to pray for each other better and to promote love and fellowship.  So let us know what you’re doing!

~~~~~~~~~~~
Also, Lord willing, there may be a few small changes in the next few weeks.  Once everyone has changed their password, we will change the access level of each member to be able to see each others “Private” blog posts, that way you will have the option to post messages that will only be viewable to logged in users.
So please go ahead and log in and change your password.  If you have any trouble getting signed in let either Brad or me know.  If by the end of the week you have not been able to set up your new password, we will assign you a password and send it to you via email.
A few notes on the blog
Posted by Brad Hicks on April 21st, 2009
Its very exciting and encouraging to read what has already been written here.  Thank you.
Just a few things to note for the blog: if someone makes a comment for the first time then it will be held for approval.  Once anyone has had one comment approved then future comments will be posted automatically.  So if you write a comment and dont see it right away then dont worry, it will show up very soon.
Also, please make sure you change your passwords as soon as possible.  There are people on the web who would love to foul up a site like this with obscenities and such, and at this point the usernames and passwords can easily be found out.  To change your password go to your user profile and scroll to the bottom, and you will see where you can quickly make the change.
Finally, I added two pages, one which contains a calendar, and one which lists upcoming events drawn from the calendar.  If you have an event that you want added to the calendar then write up a blog post for the event and when I see the post I will add the event to the calendar.  The “upcoming events” page for our blog currently lists all the events listed on the calendar within the next 8 weeks.  If you have a gmail account associated with your user account here then I have given you access to edit the calendar directly.  There are directions at the bottom of the calendar page for how to edit the calendar and also how to gain access if you dont have access already.
Thank you!
Welcome to the fishermen blog
Posted by Brad Hicks on April 17th, 2009
Hello, and welcome to “the fishermen” blog.  This blog was created so that the guys studying to be fishers of men in Mebane can share their thoughts and writings with each other and provide feedback. Each of the pastors will also have an account so they can share here as well.
We look forward to the interaction which this blog can provide.  To those men studying who may feel they are alone on a stream bank, casting a single rod, hopefully this blog will provide the experience of a commercial fishing boat, teeming with men who are striving together.
Lord willing this blog will include general thoughts and encouragements, as well as any writings done for school which might be interesting or edifying to the rest of the group.  We also hope to provide a calendar here very soon.  The blog and calendar combined can help us plan group activities and meetings.
Please log into this blog by clicking the “log in” link in the lower right hand corner.   Use your last name as both your username and password.  Once you are logged in then please change your password as soon as possible by clicking on your user name in the upper right hand corner of the dashboard, and scroll to the bottom of the “profile options” page.
Once you have changed your password for your account, then go back to the dashboard (upper left hand button) and make yourself comfortable with the interface for editing and posting blogs.  Feel free to create test blogs and comments and experiment with approving comments.  Please also delete any blogs or comments which you post which are only a test.
Before you leave the site then it would be great if you could create a short blog post which lists:
  1. How many times a week you anticipate reading and writing for this blog
  2. What additional features you would like to see available
  3. What blogs you read or write to, which would be good to add to our blogroll
Also you can include in your inaugeral post any questions you have about the site, and I’ll try to answer your questions as comments to your post.
